Conversations on Pharmacy Leadership

The Century Mortar Club (CMC) provides financial resources and time and energy for projects that help to keep the College of Pharmacy and its students at the forefront of pharmacy education.

The Conversations on Pharmacy Leadership series evolved over five years with input from many people, too numerous to name, but who are thanked as a group publicly. The program’s creation is based on the CMC board’s conversations related to the College’s Capital Campaign Leadership Initiative; the outcomes from the CMC-funded Minnesota Pharmacists: Charting our Future conference in May 2005; and observations about the great opportunities that exist for our profession to transition toward a patient care focus where all of us are paid to help our patients make the best use of their medicines. The overall purpose is to showcase leaders and how they think toward advancing pharmacy practice in Minnesota!

Launching in 2007, the goal of the series was to inspire and motivate Minnesota pharmacists and students alike to pursue their professional and personal goals by learning from their colleague’s journeys. The 4-part series was crafted to walk participants from creating change from the ground up, to influencing change at a strategic level.

Continuing in 2008, the focus will be on the “process” of leadership. Again, a four-part series is in development that is designed to help participants:

  • assess their individual strengths,
  • understand non-positional, grassroots pharmacy leadership and their ability to “make a difference” every day,
  • appreciate the processes of “visioning” and organizational leadership, and
  • examine the steps for leading “adaptive change.”
